Recovering from a Christmas Whirlwind

December 28, 2011 By: Shana6 Comments

I’d like to think that you’ve all been wondering where I’ve been since I haven’t posted in a couple of days, but the truth is, you all were probably just as busy as I was over the holidays. I still don’t think I’ve quite recovered and this is after one day of multiple naps to try and catch up. It’s quite possible I’m coming down with something considering two of the munchkins I spent Christmas with have since been diagnosed with strep throat. Not cool.

My Christmas Day Garb

If you had asked me my Christmas plans two weeks ago I would have said, “Nothing really. Casey and I are looking forward to relaxing and spending time together.” My how things can change. It all started with a surprise two night visit from some of my best friends from college and their baby boy. That was Tuesday – Thursday. Then my mom and Jim came in a day earlier than I expected – Friday. On Saturday my 11-year-old niece showed up. I thought those plans had fallen through, but apparently not. Seeing as how we had just visited my sister, Felicia, and her kids during Thanksgiving, we planned on skipping the trip down there or at least shortening it to a couple hours. Then we found out she was preparing a Christmas feast. We spent Sunday there with the 3 girls, my mom and Jim, Felicia & Tator. That meant that our trip to my other sister’s place would need to be moved to Monday. After mom and Jim left Monday morning, I took a long, long nap. Then we headed to my sister Pam’s place to hang with her kids for the night. Back to work Tuesday. Did I mention that we started Christmas shopping for everyone on Monday?

Even though it wasn’t my plan, I had an absolute blast with everyone we spent time with over Christmas. I seriously could not have imagined this holiday going any better. I got to see sweet baby Mav for the first time, play cards with some of my closest friends, watch Jim teach Casey how to spit shine shoes, hug on my mom, beat my niece in The Michael Jackson Experience on Wii, play Apples to Apples and Taboo with my Pam and her family (girls dominated!), eat an amazingly delicious meal prepared by Felicia, watch some of my nieces tear through all their Christmas presents, and the list goes on…

Although Casey and I were together the whole time, we really didn’t get the quality time that we needed. You know how that is. You’re busy hanging out with other people together, which is fun and needed, but you miss out on that one-on-one time. I’m hoping that we can make it a point to be intentional about having that time before Casey goes back to teaching. Granted it will be harder with me back to work, but we need to emotionally reconnect after all the craziness. I’ll let you know how it goes.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear how your holiday went. Was it exhausting like mine?

P.S. I realize I missed my Marriage Minute on Monday. My days were thrown off. I though Monday was Sunday and Tuesday Monday. I’ll get back on schedule next week.
